Scrapbooking, Camping

Happy Monday everybody!  It's been a while since I've done much updated around here, but I do have a fun layout for the Memory Nest to share.  While I really wanted to be scraping wintery things, I ended up scraping summer!  Now a few months back I made a camping page for my son, and this one is more for my daughter.  I originally was going to put journaling on one of the long rectangles, but I ended up stitching a feather.  I'll probably end up putting my journaling on a half page insert. I had a lot of ideas for this sketch. Hopefully I'll get around to doing more of my ideas for it when I have more time to scrapbook.   Why haven't I had time?  Well, I've been busy playing handbells.  Christmas is my crazy busy time with concerts and private events.  I have to start practicing Christmas music at the end of August, so by the time December comes, I'm fairly tired of Christmas music! Here I am before a show with some of the tiny bell

Scrapbooking, Kindergarten

Happy Monday!  Here is my layout for my daughter's first day of kindergarten (yes, I know the a is backwards in the title).  I like to let my daughter help and sometimes things like that happen.  It gives it lots of character. My daughter is loving school.  Her teacher is amazing.  Her teacher plays the guitar and starts every day by singing songs.  I want to go to kindergarten! lol.  It's fun to see how much she has learned in just two months!  This was a fun layout from the Memory Nest .  I found this layout helped me make one of the fastest pages ever.  I'm such a slow scraper.  I think this one got done in under an hour!  If only every page I made would come out so fast.

Scrapbooking, Camping

This summer we went camping back east and I wanted to make a page from my little dude's perspective for his scrapbook (I'll make one for my daughter too).   This page was made using this sketch from the memory nest  for make it Monday.  Ya, I'm a little late in posting this.  Columbus day really threw me off!  I never realized that was a Monday.  I only processed it as I do not bring my daughter to school day. lol!     Anyways, I definitely wanted to post more than just four photos, so I had to alter this sketch a bit to get all my photos onto the page.  My favorite part is the stitching to hold the pin in place.  It gives it a really nice outdoor camping feel.  I have lots of camping embellishments, but most didn't make it on this page as they had a very different color scheme.  Maybe I'll get them onto my daughter's page.

Scrapbooking, Smile

Wow it's October!  I wanted to share my page that's part of this Scraptober Fest!  My page uses the sketch from the Memory Nest .  It's a really bright page for my daughter's 5th birthday.  I let her pick out the wooden word for the top, and she chose pretty.  I like letting her pick out some of the embellishments for her pages.  It's so fun to see what she chooses and really helps make the page about her. Here is the rundown of Scraptober Fest.  I hope you get to make lots of fun pages.  I know I will be making some Halloween costumes and hopefully paint my bathroom and laundry room, so I hope I find the time to get more scrapbooking in to! ScraptoberFest Challenge Because we love to challenge ourselves and other scrappers, we have teamed up with 3 other great scrap challenge sites to bring you an ultimate challenge with a chance to win multiple prizes! This is how the challenge works: Each challenge blog is hosting a challenge on their blog

Scrapbooking, Turning Two

So, this summer was my little dude's second birthday.  It was a very simple birthday and he was teething really badly.  He was so miserable, but I did manage to get a few happy photos of him.   My favorite part is the bright purple frames.  I'm really into painting all my frames right now.  I have so many in floral patterns and that doesn't go with my style at all.  I need way more fun and bright frames! This is the sketch that I based my layout with. It's for The Memory Nest 's Make it Monday 47!  Originally, I was going to do a painted background with molding past and lots of texture where the stripes are in the sketch, but I decided that was going to take more work and energy then I had.  To put it simply, my now two year old learned how to climb out of his crib and now wakes everyone up at 2:45am every single night for the past week!  We have become a very sleep deprived household.  Oh and he will not take naps anymore.  There goes my scrapbooki

Scrapbooking, Octo Card

So I have something a little different to share today.  I've got this fun little card that I made.  It is actually part of the 2 crafty girls challenge, but I made it for the Memory Nest since they are sponsoring it.  I'm glad I only had to make a card though because I was traveling to New York and I did some camping out in the Adirondack wilderness with out internet access for a few weeks.  Well, I did find a very large rock that I could climb and get a little bit of a signal, but it wasn't much!  Then we flew home and had to do lots of kindergarten prep stuff.  My not so little girl starts school tomorrow!  Craziness!   Anyways, this is the first card I've ever made for a challenge before.  I've only made cards a few times before.  It's defiantly a bit out of my comfort zone!  The octopus was supposed to be a stamp, but it was too small, so I just drew it bigger.  I was very determined to make a card with one.  I have no particular reason why, bu

Scrapbooking, Adore

Every once in a while, I make a layout that I absolutely love and this is one of them.  I think it might be the rainbowness of it all that I love.  This is really a random photo of my daughter that I took while we were waiting for the bus.  I played with the photo on my phone and made it more rainbowy.  I really like how it came out, so I printed it out for my project life, but then I decided it needed its own page.  It really is a random page for a random photo.     This is my page for the Memory Nest . The circles on the sketch were my major inspiration.  I felt that they would make a fun background.  At first, I changed the circles to triangles and then I noticed all these old frames on my desk.  I'm a chipboard frame hoarder. lol.  I thought most of the frames were really ugly or they had patterns that I would never use.  At first, I was going to just paint the frames white, but then I decided to make them gray.  I'm glad I made them gray because now they

Scrapbooking, Snip Snip

I've got a cute layout this week.  It's my little guy's first haircut.  Someday my daughter will have a layout like this, but she still hasn't had her first hair cut.  I actually put the little bag of his hair snipits on the layout.  I wasn't going to at first, but what else was I going to do with them?  So I used a bunch of rub-ons from Amy Tangerine on this layout.  Those rub-ons stink.  I had the hardest time getting them to fully stick on.  It was a shame because the scissor ones were really cute, but they only partially stuck, so I had to stick the be brave sticker over them.  If you look really carefully, you can see a little gold stick out.     This layout is for the Memory Nest's Make it Monday .  You can see how I interpreted the sketch.  My title moved down so I could add the hair and journaling.

Scrapbooking, Meow

I have had a much quieter week after the our great upstairs flood.  I even got this layout done for the Memory Nest .  It looks really blue on the computer, but in person it has more green  and teal tones to it.  Sometimes the computer can't bring the richness out.  This page is for my little guy and his beloved Meow.  Meow is the kitty's name and it goes everywhere with him.  He is so attached to his stuffies and blankets.  He is the complete opposite of my daughter who doesn't really form any attachment to things.    Anyways, I used gel medium on the background to make the triangles, stars, and dots.  Then when it dried I used water colors to make the background.  After that I layered scraps of paper and put my embellishments down.  Overall this page came together quick for me and that usually doesn't happen.  I did print color companions to these black and white photos.  I wanted to make them flaps, but I messed up on the sizes so that didn't work out.

Scrapbooking, Stayin' Cool

I think I may have jinxed myself with this layout.  I made this layout a little while ago for the Memory Nest .  Since I have made this layout we have had a horrible heat wave.  It has been in the 90s every single day for a week.  If I lived in Florida or Texas or some place like that I wouldn't think anything of it, but I live in Seattle.  It's supposed to stay in the 70s.  Nobody has air conditioning, so there is no place to go and cool down.  It stinks.  Plus, my upstairs flooded on wednesday.  The toilet in the kids bathroom failed.  While my kids and I were eating lunch, the water rushed into the hallway and down into my daughter's bedroom.  I tell myself, at least it was at clean water.  My daughter was the first to notice and told me she was hearing a strange noise.  It took every towel I own (25 big ones) to soak up the water.  Each one of the towels was completely soaked up.  I'm still washing the towels. So we had to have water damage people come and t

Scrapbooking, SeaBlown Hair

Wow it's Monday again!  Here is my page for the Memory Nest .  I normally don't get around to scraping pictures of events and moments that happened anywhere close to present day, but this one is an exception.  I really wanted to scrap these photos from our Oregon beach adventure last week.  We had such awful weather, but I got some darling photos despite the pouring rain.   As you can see, I altered the sketch a bit to fit three horizontal photos.  I tried to use paper layers to help play on the two vertical photo spots from the sketch.     I love the pink to purple to blue in this paper.  It pink reminds me of the hope we had for warm beach weather and the blue is the actual reality of cold rainy beach days.     I realized that I have so many wonderful and bright beach embellishments, but most didn't seem to fitting for my page.  I couldn't resist this popsicle though!     I used a bit of washi tape on this page.  I have way to muc

Scrapbooking, Blanket Obsession Continues On

Hey I just wanted to share this layout I did for the Memory Nest real quick.  My in-laws are coming into town and I've got a lot to do plus we are driving down to meet them in Portland, so I'm crazy busy.   This page has lots of layers and a bunch of them consist of colored velum and transparencies.  The page looks fairly clean, but all the layers gives it some extra pizazz.  Overall, I'm really happy with the colors.  They are based off of my little guy's blanket, even though you can't tell because the photos are all in black and white.  I think this turned out to be a fun page for my little guy and his blanket.   And here is the sketch that inspired my page!

Scrapbooking, S is for Swing

Hi everybody!  A few years ago, I made a page for my daughter called B is for.  It had different things B could be like beautiful and bellybutton.  Well, I decided to try another page like that.  This time it was for the letter S.       It's a fun page with a little bit of interaction.  I know it looks a little wonkey in the picture, but it really is straight in real life.  Of course, I made this page for the Memory Nest Make it Monday .  I went with the interactive page with a flap to add my extra photo because I felt adding a photo another way kind of lost the spirit of the sketch and I really wanted to include both photos.     It was fun trying to find a few embellishments in my stash that started with the letter S.  Of course I had lots and lots of stars!  The bunny is really random.  A fun Japanese dollar store opened up by me and they have lots of fun paper bits!  That's where the bunny comes from.  He might make a few appearances on a few of my pa

Scrapbooking, Two Months

Ever make a big mistake on a layout?  Well, let me share my layout for the Memory Nest's Make it Monday .  So, I had the sketch and I had an idea what I wanted to do.  I was going to do this cool gelato background and it ended up being a big mess.  So, I put to the side and tried again.  I made this page you see....well kind of what you see.  Originally, I put a nice wooden one and wrote all about my little guy's first month milestones.  When I went to put the layout away, I realized that I had the wrong month.  These were actually his second month of life photos.  Whoops!  I could switch out the wooden number easily, but the journaling was more tricky to fix.  I had written right onto the page, so I had to cover up my old journaling with new journaling.  This made the page very right side heavy.  Then I had to add some more bits on the left side to help it a bit.  It came out fine in the end, but I was in a bit of a panic for a while.  I wasn't positive I was going t

Nature Baby Mobile

I'm really excited to share this really darling baby mobile that I made for my cousin.  It was a special request for mushrooms, pine trees, and hedgehogs.  I felt it needed an owl too.  If you know my cousin, then you know this woodland theme is totally her.  I really enjoy making these.  If anyone wants me to make them one, I would love to do it!  They are so relaxing to make.   After I made it, I wanted to compare it to ones I made in the past.  For my daughter I made this bunny mobile  and a couple of years ago I made this  bear mobile  for my niece.  I noticed I only had four hanging things as apposed to the six I've made in the past, but each critter/thing is a bit more detailed.  I think it was due to the smaller wooden hoop.  I used a wooden one instead of a plastic one for a nature feel and the wooden was that I found was smaller.   The owl is one of my favorites.  I had to make the gray floss since I didn't have any and didn't feel like going

Scrapbooking Process Video, Hoppy Egg Hunt

Here is the video for my latest layout.  Hope you enjoy my rambles.

Scrapbooking, Hoppy Egg Hunt

Hooray it's Monday!  I've got a really bright layout to share today. I've been wanting to do a big string art inspired title for a while, and it finally worked out on this layout.  The title was fun to do, but it takes forever.  Well, it took a few hours as I watched some anime and I know that slowed me down a bit.      This page was made for make it Monday over at the Memory Nest using this sketch.  I was fairly faithful to the sketch again.  Not too many tangents.     I have done some cross stitching way back when so I think that's why I like to stitch on my layout.     I added some cute stamps.  I really wanted to add another stamped egg, but couldn't find a good spot for it to "hide."     I used my own enamel dots again!   I've got a process video coming for this layout.  Hopefully, I'll have it up by Monday evening (west coast time).
