First Award Ever!

I found out that I received this snazzy little award the other day, but was too busy to post about it (and I was in a very grumpy mood for no real reason). Well this morning is nice and sunny and I'm feeling great so now I can shout yay for getting my first award thingy.  Yay!  I have to thank Brittany over Budget Crafts for sending this to me. Rules of receiving this award: 1. Thank the person who gave you this award 2. Share 7 things about yourself. 3. Pass the award along to 15 bloggers who you have recently discovered and who you think are fantastic! (in no particular order...) 4. Contact the bloggers you've picked and let them know about the award. So 7 things about myself... 1.  One of the scariest moments in my life was when my hubby and I tried to juggle in a park very near where we lived and got attacked by a mob of 5 year olds.  We haven't done too much juggling since. 2.  The other scariest moment in my life was when a deer ran into my brand new orang

First Quilt Ever Part 5

Not all corners are square..... I had the hardest time figuring out if I should add a boarder or not.  In the end I decided to add one, but boy did I have a hard time with it.  I cut my strips all wrong and I did not  pay any attention when I sewed them on, so I have some funny corners now.  I have decided that it is the imperfections that make for a homemade quilt...ok, I just didn't feel like redoing it all. This is the only corner to come out right. From a distance it isn't too bad.  =)

First Quilt Ever Part 4

It's slow going, but I now have all my squares together.  I'm surprised how they all ended up lined so well. Only a few were a little off and I think that was because I got a little off while sewing.  Now I just need to find the fabric for the back and border.

Travels and Baby Shower

I'm a tad behind on my projects, but it is all for good reason.  I've been back on the east coast for my baby shower.  It's great to see all my friends and family eventhough the weather wasn't too great.  When I had my brial shower last year in April it snowed and now I had my baby shower in May and it still managed to snow.  Just got to love upsate New York weather.  Anyways, I was really amazed on how many wonderful hand made things our baby received and I just had to share them.  The cradle in the above picture was made by my father-in-law.  I have no idea how it is going to get to the Seattle, but it is so beautiful. This green little sweater is embroidered and has a cute bunny on the back and made by my friends mom. This quilt was made by my aunt and just puts my quilt in progress to shame.  =)  My cousin made this sweet little dress. A super soft blanket made by another aunt. And another blanket and booties made by another talented aunt of mine. Finally, my niece

First Quilt Ever Part 3

So after I had everything all cut and placed out, I realized I had no idea on how to attach the bunnies on.  First I pined everything and tried doing a zig zag stitch, but it wasn't working well and looking awful.  I asked a few people I knew about ways to go about it and most of them said to try some double sided webbing or to try iron-on adhesive.  Well, I found some Heat n Bond stuff and decided to give that a whirl.  The first bunny I tried ended up making half of my ironing board all sticky (I then realized maybe I shouldn't have cut out the bunnies yet).  So I ended up having to put wax paper under the bunnies.  The stuff told me to use medium heat, but it wasn't hot enough to get it to stick so I had to turn it way up. Once it was on the back side of the bunny, I trimmed it, so it wasn't sticking to my iron when I put it on the blocks. It's not trimmed yet in the picture below. Then I just peeled of the paper and ironed it onto the block. It made it a little
