Scrapbooking, Big Sister Lovin'

BigSisLovin

Ah it's Monday.  I have to fly back to Seattle later today after being on Holiday in Rochester, NY.  I'm sad to be leaving all my family (my daughter LOVED playing with all her cousins), but I will not miss the -6 temps, several feet of snow, and lots of wind.
It's another color challenge over at Make it Monday over at the Memory Nest.  This color pallet is not my normal kind of color scheme as it is far too muted.  Oddly, it reminds me a lot of my sister's furniture from Florida.  If only I had a picture of it!
To bring in the neutral color, I added the wooden frame and the cork stars.  In the inspiration I noticed a tiny bit of yellow on the table so I added the blue patch with the yellow star.  I had to get a little more color in!

  2. Beautiful layout. Love the pop of yellow and great job with the colors. Stay warm and hope you make it home soon! But in the meantime enjoy your family time.

Valentine's Day Wreath

Now that the Christmas decorations are down, it is time to make some Valentine's Day decorations to put up! I have seen some in the store, but it is much more fun to make your own.  So here is how I made my sweet heart wreath. First you need a hoop (the one I used had about a 7 in diameter), 7 big wooden hearts, 8 small wooden hearts, paint, glitter, ribbon, and some hot glue. I took all my hearts and painted them a solid color and then went back over them and made some patterns or outlined them. I thought they were looking a little boring so I went back and put some glitter on random ones. Then I went around and hot glued the big ones and tried to make them as evenly spaced as possible. Then I hot glued the smaller ones on top of the bigger hearts, tied some ribbon, and then hung on my door!

Scrapbooking, First Solo

I can't believe how much time has gone by since I last scrapbooked.  Well, I finally have been inspired to scrap again and I found a fun challenge with a very happy mood board that got my creative juices going again. Recently, my daughter got to dance her first solo on a stage.  I had only seen her dance this when she was first learning this.  She had a broken wrist at the time, so I never had seen some of the moves until she danced it on stage.  It had been over a year since she was on a stage and she has never been on one all by herself.  I wasn't sure how she was going to do.  I could tell she was getting nervous, but she did a beautiful job.  I was a very proud mommy.  =)  I really wanted to add one more picture, so I added this photo on a pull out tab.  I always enjoy the pages that have a little interactive part to them. While the paper I used for this layout was all new, all the embellishments are things that I have had for a long time.  I used some old stickers, wooden

Scrapbooking, Girl Scout Camp

So this is a layout that I made for a mixed media challenge and it isn't at all how I planned for it to turn out.  It started with a long hunt on finding my daughter's girl scout camp photos.  I knew that there were more of her at camp, but never found them.  I wanted to do a layout filled with triangles, but I couldn't cut a decent triangle for the life of me.  Then I saw a cool sketch with hexagons and planned on doing that.  I happily made a shape on my silhouette and then used it to cut all my photos.  I was playing around, but couldn't get my photos to line up like the sketch.  I was super puzzled and then I realized why.  I made pentagons instead of hexagons!  I played for a long time with my pentagons trying to get a layout that I liked and eventually came up with this flower shape.  Overall, it's a fun layout that is drastically different then my normal layouts, so it's a refreshing change.
