The 3rd Birthday, the Underwater Party

What would you be if you lived under the sea? Would you be big or would you be small? Would you wish to be a jelly fish? What kind of fish do you want to be?

We celebrated our daughter's 3rd birthday yesterday with her friends.

We had a lot of fun decorating.

She made the jellyfish with some help from mommy.  I think it is great that she helped make the decorations for her birthday.  The jellies are made from some paper bowls and some stuff that reminds me of Chinese finger traps for the tentacles that I only found at the craft store because I was chasing the munchkin and she kept running down random isles.  She also had made most of her birthday invites.

I also added some decorations on top of our mantle.  I had to dig for some scrap blue fabric.  I didn't have any single pieces that would stretch all away across, so I had to kind of weave them together and make them look kind of like waves.  I also ran out of green streamers, so my plant was a little smaller then I was envisioning.  I do like how the paper plate fishy turned out.  I also made the little blue circle felt garland.  I had always wanted to make one.

It's kind of hard to tell from this photo, but the cake is actually made of three different blue shaded layers.  It's the first round birthday cake I've ever made.  This definitely was a turn your tonged blue and everything else kind of cake, but that's what the birthday girl requested.

There also was some fruit cup boats.  It is so hard to find healthy cute birthday snack ideas.

I made some very cute favors.  They are fishing poles and you can catch 3 fishes, a jelly, and a boot.  I plan on doing a more elaborate post on this later with patterns and things.

Valentine's Day Wreath

Now that the Christmas decorations are down, it is time to make some Valentine's Day decorations to put up! I have seen some in the store, but it is much more fun to make your own.  So here is how I made my sweet heart wreath.
First you need a hoop (the one I used had about a 7 in diameter), 7 big wooden hearts, 8 small wooden hearts, paint, glitter, ribbon, and some hot glue. I took all my hearts and painted them a solid color and then went back over them and made some patterns or outlined them. I thought they were looking a little boring so I went back and put some glitter on random ones. Then I went around and hot glued the big ones and tried to make them as evenly spaced as possible. Then I hot glued the smaller ones on top of the bigger hearts, tied some ribbon, and then hung on my door!

Scrapbooking, Spooktackular

Happy Monday!  Wow was last week crazy.  I experienced more drama than I ever imagined and I am so glad for a brand new week.  They super short version is that some people got very emotional that a song wasn't going to be included in a winter sing-a-long.  The full version takes me about 20 minutes to say and I don't even know how long that would take to type, so lets just enjoy my layout for the memory nest.  I used a bunch of stamps and colored them in on this layout.  I was in a very stampy mood.  My favorite part is how the title turned out.  The little lamp post sticker was just a perfect fit.
Normally I do a pumpkin patch layout, but we never made it to the pumpkin patch this year.  We had too many activities and the one day we could go, the weather was a disaster.  We had a solid downpour all day long and that's no fun when you have a baby. I did try to make up for it by going around my neighborhood and getting some photos of my kids.  My daughter says she was fine…

Scrapbooking, Melt My Heart

I've got one more rainbow inspired layout to share. This time I played along with Scrap Our Stash. I used the following five items up from the list. 1. Stripe Paper (I may have a rainbow stripe addiction when it comes to paper) 2. Paper Clip (the orange arrow at the top) 3. Wood Veneer (the cute arrow) 4. Flair (I've got two.  The circle heart from Amy Tangerine and the square sunshine from a Freckled Fawn Kit) 5. Enamel Dots (I've got a few green in one corner and a few orange in another)
I used a bunch of pop dots on this layout to keep some of the corners up and to give the clouds some layering.  I kind of forgotten just how handy those little things can be in giving depth to a page. I also decided to keep my journaling hidden since this page has so much going on pattern wise with no good breaks.
